    •  Primary interests – robotics, human-robot interaction, machine learning, natural language processing. My research focuses on how robots can learn from people using natural language to describe the world around them and how robots can be part of an ethical, diversity-aware computing ecosystem.
  • Karen Chen
    • Primary interests – data-driven method, human-human/human-robot interaction.  I am interested in designing, implementing, and studying integrated human-centered AI/Robotics Systems that can humbly learn from humans, proactively support humans, and relentlessly serve humans, particularly in domains such as healthcare and education, where human experts’ (e.g., doctors, nurses, and teachers) knowledge are implicit, and human services target (e.g., patients and students) are heterogeneous and complex. I explore data science/analytics/machine learning/AI methods to derive deep insights into human physiological, neurological, psychological, and behavioral processes.
  • Ankit Goel
    • Primary interests – nonlinear control and estimation theory; data-driven, adaptive control; robotics. My research focuses on developing real-time, data-driven, adaptive algorithms for high-dimensional, unknown, and uncertain dynamic systems that include climate models, subgrid models, and autonomous systems such as multi-copters and VTOLS. My research aims to develop self-learning algorithms that can automatically adapt to unknown and uncertain environments.

    • Primary interests in the context of CRII – VR as a tool for the study of human-robot interaction; VR as an interface for human-robot interaction; robots and autonomous systems for data collection (e.g. from a physical scene) in support of the natural sciences; adaptive autonomy (e.g. individual robots and swarms adapting to various levels of human attention/instruction); computer vision for the understanding of scenes related to open questions in the natural sciences (e.g. astronomy/astrophysics).
